The Kshamta Kendra (Capacity Building Centre) of the Indian Institute of Youth Welfare (IIYW) is a dynamic hub of training, learning, and empowerment. Established to address the socio-economic challenges faced by underprivileged populations, the Kendra focuses on equipping youth, women, community leaders, and grassroots workers with practical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to bring positive change.

Backed by decades of experience and strong partnerships, Kshamta Kendra operates from its main center at Lonara, Nagpur, and supports additional outreach in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal districts.

Objectives

  • To strengthen individual capabilities for income generation and social participation

  • To develop leadership and decision-making skills among rural and marginalized communities

  • To empower women and youth through vocational, digital, and soft skills training

  • To support local governance, community mobilization, and health awareness through structured workshops

  • To build institutional capacities of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), CBOs, and Anganwadi workers

Major Training Domains

1. Vocational & Livelihood Training

  • Tailoring, bag making, candle and incense stick production

  • Beauty culture, snacks preparation, mehendi design

  • Digital literacy, bookkeeping, micro-enterprise development

  • Financial literacy and market linkage support

2. Women’s Empowerment & SHG Strengthening

  • SHG formation, record maintenance, savings-credit models

  • Gender equality, health, nutrition, and sanitation training

  • Entrepreneurial development and cooperative formation

  • Over 900 SHGs formed and empowered through training

3. Leadership & Governance

  • Capacity building for Panchayat members and SHG leaders

  • Gender sensitization, human rights awareness, and group facilitation skills

  • Orientation on local governance systems and schemes

  • Legal literacy and dispute resolution for women

4. Health, Hygiene & Environment Education

  • WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) campaigns

  • Menstrual hygiene management for adolescent girls

  • Clean energy, organic farming, and eco-awareness training

  • Integration with DEWATS and slum sanitation projects

5. AWTC & MLTC (ICDS Training)

  • Training for Anganwadi workers, helpers, and supervisors

  • Enhancing service delivery under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)

  • Focus on mother and child care, nutrition, early childhood education

Training Infrastructure

Lonara, Nagpur – Main Centre

  • Capacity for 150–200 trainees

  • 17 furnished training rooms with attached bathrooms

  • Separate dormitories for men and women

  • Mess, dining halls, library, and resource rooms

  • DEWATS system for wastewater recycling

  • Host of national and international projects implemented here

Additional Facilities

  • Ralegaon (Yavatmal): Capacity – 100 trainees

  • Chandrapur: Capacity – 50 trainees

  • Gadchiroli: Capacity – 50 trainees

Each center includes accommodation, training halls, and essential amenities for residential learning.
